BUPRENORPHINE

Each patient receives a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan that combines evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy as well as MAT.  Our clinic prescribes sublingual Buprenorphine pills  as a MAT treatment option.

Buprenorphine is an opioid partial agonist.  It is used to treat dependency on heroin, fentanyl, and opioid drugs by reducing cravings and withdrawals.  When taken as prescribed, Buprenorphine is safe and effective in helping sustain recovery and maintain meaningful lives.  

Your individualized treatment plan with Buprenorphine will provide you a daily dose administered at the clinic with the ability to earn take-home doses over time after a period of established stability, so that you do not have to make a trip to the clinic every day.

Research demonstrates that people who consistently adhere to a comprehensive Buprenorphine treatment plan versus just taking a prescription have a higher chance of success and partake in less risky behaviors and less criminal activity than they would have while dependent on non-medically monitored opioids.  

Buprenorphine must not be taken with alcohol, benzodiazepines,  or other opioid-based substances as it can lead to severe symptoms including death.    While taking Buprenorphine, it is important to follow instructions provided by the clinic as well as to let someone know that you are taking Buprenorphine.  We also recommend carrying a card for medical personnel to know about your treatment and to carry Naloxone (Narcan) in case of overdose.
