Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist used in the treatment of opioid dependence, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid use. When taken as prescribed and monitored by medical professionals, buprenorphine is a safe and highly effective treatment.

Your treatment plan may include daily clinic dosing initially, along with the opportunity to earn take-home doses over time based on demonstrated stability and program compliance. This structure supports both safety and convenience while promoting long-term recovery.

Research consistently shows that patients who actively engage in a structured treatment program — including counseling and medical supervision — experience significantly better outcomes than those who rely on medication alone. For safety, buprenorphine should not be combined with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or non-prescribed sedating medications, as this can increase the risk of serious respiratory depression or other complications. We strongly encourage patients to carry naloxone (Narcan) and ensure that trusted individuals are aware of its location and use. In an emergency, this medication can save lives.
